Interested in helping out for this year’s Emmy Awards?
We’re looking for volunteers and crew.
If you don’t live in Palm Springs area, we will provide a hotel room to share. If you want to have your own private room, you will have the option to cover the extra cost. You will need to provide your own transportation to the venue. We will provide meals on the day of the event, June 11th.
The Emmy planning committee is looking for people to work setup, registration, the Silent Auction, production crew – such as being a production assistant, gripping, camera, audio, audio assist., TD, EVS op, video, AD, Floor directors, etc. Please contact [email protected] with the position(s) you are interested and qualified to work, along with your resume, if this interests you.
42nd Annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards Returns to Palm Springs

r the NATAS-PSW Emmy® Awards returns to the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage on Saturday, June 11th for the 42nd Annual Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards. Invitations will be mailed to all members and this year’s entrants in early May.
A cocktail reception will begin at 5 p.m. in the foyer, followed by dinner and the Awards ceremony.
For those of you wishing to stay at the hotel, rooms are being held for us at the rate of $139 for a standard room. The resort fee has also been reduced to $10/day. To make your reservation, call 1-877-253-0041 and request the NATAS-PSW Emmy Awards group rate or book online. For these rates, reservations must be made by May 11th at 5pm. Judges Needed for Online Categories and Super Panel
We have an online Emmy® judging opportunity and a Super Panel this month to judge the Lower Great Lakes and DC Chapters, in English categories. When you submit your Emmy® Entry, you are agreeing to judge other chapters’ entries. Without this reciprocity, there would be no Emmy® Awards. Judges will receive one judging reward per panel judged. Judging rewards are valued at $5- each, and can be used towards membership renewal, Emmy® Entry submissions, and Emmy® Event Tickets.
SUPERPANEL:
This is an in-person, all-day judging session from 8:30 am to 4 pm on Saturday, March 12th in San Diego. Up to 8 English language news panels will be judged. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, and Super Judging Rewards will be given to participants. For National Capital Chesapeake Bay (DC), qualified judges need a minimum of 5 years of professional television experience in the category being judged. Appropriate job titles include producers, directors, writers, editors, photographers and reporters whose experience qualifies them to evaluate the work of their peers. Judges need not be NATAS members. Map and directions will be sent to confirmed judges prior to the panel. The deadline to complete judging NCCB (DC) online judging is Sunday, April 10, 2016.

Remembering Reginald “Reggie” Michael LaFrance, Jr.
NATAS-PSW remembers longtime KLVX (PBS-Las Vegas) broadcast producer and director Reginald “Reggie” Michael LaFrance, Jr., who died January 31.
A college football player at UNLV, LaFrance was part of the Rebel football championship team and wore number 85. He graduated from UNLV with a bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts. ??
LaFrance’s professional accomplishments include his production and direction of many projects, including MTV’s Real World and feature films. During his 29 years at Vegas PBS, his projects won many accolades, including three Pacific Southwest Regional Emmy Awards. He was also awarded the Edward R. Murrow Award and others based on his passion for people to “see” through his eyes.?
While LaFrance made a huge contribution to the world in sports and his professional life, his greatest achievement was being a father. He is survived by his daughter, Taira; his siblings, Rene, Andre, Barry, Bobby and Jason, and many cousins.

How do you search for jobs now? What’s different?
Social media has changed how the traditional job seeker branded themselves, applied for jobs that were professionally satisfying and challenging, and provided career advancement.
Previously, seekers applied for jobs they saw advertised in job boards and newspapers. Recent job seekers are more sophisticated as to who they sought as employers and who was interviewed. Social media analytics connect the job candidates with the positions, in many cases.
Furthermore, how employers seek candidates through social media has caused disruption of traditional recruitment practices. Social media has disrupted traditional recruitment marketing strategies. Let’s explore how to use these tools to find jobs that advance careers for NATAS PSW and Press Club members and learn more about how placement firms provide guidance to firms recruiting candidates.

- Evaluate the quality of profiles on Linkedin.com
- Learn how job seekers can start and grow your own groups
- Learn how to acquire and give recommendations
You can build professional recommendations by simply asking people and telling them your intentions clearly. Nothing is more effective than a third party referral, and this is one of the key benefits of linkedin.com.
In addition, you can download your own personal data for analysis. All it takes is your e-mail address and a password to get started. Social Media websites make money by selling ads, job postings, research data, and memberships.
During the interactive presentation, each person will speak to the person next to them briefly about their experience, lack of, or what they need to learn better. Then one of them will share what they learned from each other.

NATAS-PSW Emmy Call for Entries is Open
The Emmy Call for Entries is open! Here’s the list of categories. Get your entry/entries in by 9 p.m. Pacific January 22. Late entries will be accepted through 9 p.m. on January 29 with a $25/per entry/entrant late fee.
Here’s what you do: 1) Renew your membership for 2016, or join for the first time through Emmy Express, 2) Enter your program or craft through Emmy Express, make sure you have all the names on the entry at that time, 3) Pay for your entry either through Emmy Express via credit card or send in a check. You do not need to upload your video today. All videos must be uploaded by Wednesday, February 3rd.
If you have Emmy Rewards, you may add them to these entries. This year you will be able to use a maximum of $25 worth (five) of Emmy Rewards per entry.

The Pacific Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has opened the application period for the Scholarship Program for the coming 2016-2017 school year.
