Major Milestone in Daytime Emmy® Awards History

Great news about the Daytime Emmy Awards!  The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) has announced that the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards will be shared with both a national and global audience via livestream when the ceremony takes place on Sunday, June 22.

This is the first time in its history that the prestigious organization will be utilizing this platform to broadcast the awards show, and it does so in the hopes that audiences around the world will be able to engage in an event which celebrates programs that are known internationally and boast a global fan base. The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, will be available for viewing live at www.daytimeemmys.net beginning at 5:00pm on June 22. Emmy® Awards will be handed out for twenty-five categories, including several new ones announced this year.

NATAS will also be connecting with viewers through their social media platforms, enlisting the help of several social media ambassadors to capture special moments on-site and share them via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine and YouTube.

“We are so thrilled to be sharing the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards with a global audience in such an innovative and contemporary fashion,” said Malachy Wienges, Chairman of NATAS. “We are confident that the expert team we’ve brought on will flawlessly execute an evening that celebrates the outstanding talent being honored and allows fans to be a part of the action.”

Wienges brought on some of the industry’s finest production, social media and public relations partners to produce the 2014 Daytime Emmy® Awards and help see the ceremony through its first web-based broadcast. Spike Jones, Jr and SJ2 Entertainment will be producing the live show at the Beverly Hilton with Terry D. Peterson, Owner, Artistic Director, Verite Productions, Inc. Paul Colichman and HERE Media will handle all aspects of social media for the event, and Slate PR, led by Andy Gelb, has been appointed the Agency of Record for the 2014 Daytime Emmy® Awards.

The Daytime Emmy® Awards recognize outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2:00am – 6:00pm during the 2013 calendar year. The 41st Annual Daytime Emmy® Awards is a presentation of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in cooperation with The Television Academy (ATAS).

Volunteer for This Year’s Pacific Southwest Emmy® Awards

This year’s Emmy® Awards night is at the La Costa Resort & Spa on June 14th. We are planning a very special night because it’s our Chapter’s 40th anniversary.

Our Awards show is staffed by volunteers and chapter members. This is an excellent opportunity to step up and become part of the crew. It’s about giving back to the community and networking with other members of the media.  If you have worked on past shows, you know it’s a lot of work but also very rewarding. If you have been nominated for an Emmy® Award this year, it’s a low cost way to attend and accept your award.

Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering this year by emailing [email protected].  Include your crew position, and mobile number.

Board of Governors Election Coming In May

Would you like to help improve NATAS Pacific Southwest?  There is no better way to influence the quality of the membership experience than to join us on the Board of Governors.  The Board of Governors is the parliamentary governing body which oversees the functioning of each of the Chapters that comprise The National Television Academy.  The Governors are entrusted with administering the Chapters and for safeguarding the integrity of the Emmy® brand and the Emmy® Awards process.  Governors are elected by the general membership of each Chapter from its active members. Governors may serve two consecutive two-year terms.

If you’d like to run for the June ’14 – June ’16 term, contact the chapter office at [email protected] to put your name on the ballot.

The duties of a Governor include the following:

•To attend a general meeting each month of the Board of Governors to discuss and vote on matters of importance to the Academy.

•To act as a conduit to and from the television community on matters affecting the Chapter and the community.

•To chair or serve actively on at least one Committee.*

•To participate actively in the production of at least one Chapter program or activity each year and to attend as many Chapter functions as possible.

•To serve as a judge and recruit others to judge the Emmy entries from other Chapters of The National Academy.

•To recruit new members of the Chapter.

•To perform whatever other duties are required to maintain the integrity, well-being, and efficient functioning of the Television Academy Chapter.

* The Standing Committees of the Pacific Southwest Chapter include: Activities, Area Awards, Communications, Internet, Legal, Chapter Stations, Membership and Education/Scholarship. There are also several ad hoc committees including Nominations, Television History and Silver/Gold Circle.

Help us continue 40 years of excellence by running for the NATAS-PSW Board of Governors.
