July Online Judging Opportunity

Earn judging rewards to use towards membership dues and entry fees

Judging for Mid-America Chapter

We have an online Emmy® judging opportunity this month to judge the Mid-America Chapter, in English categories.  When you submit your Emmy® Entry, you are agreeing to judge other chapters’ entries.  Without this reciprocity, there would be no Emmy® Awards.  Judges will receive one judging reward per panel judged.  Judging rewards are valued at $5- each, and can be used towards membership renewal, Emmy® Entry submissions, and Emmy® Event Tickets.  The deadline to complete judging is Monday, July 20, 2015.

The list of panels is below, with the qualifications, categories, number of entries to be judged and the total running time of the panel.

Qualified judges need a minimum of 2 years of professional television experience relevant to the category being judged. To become a judge, please email [email protected] with the name of the panel(s) that you’re qualified and willing to judge, and you’ll be sent a link to the judging web site, along with detailed instructions, and a login code. You will then create a judging profile and view the entries online in the comfort of your home or office. Judging does not have to be completed in one sitting; you may start and stop as needed.

Actor Brett Stimely to host the NATAS Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards

Brett Stimely, known for his accurate portrayals of President John F. Kennedy, will host the 41st NATAS Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards in Palm Springs.

Brett Stimely

Stimely’s performance in the film “Watchmen” stuck in the mind of “Transformer’s: Dark of the Moon”director Michael Bay, who said, “Get me the same guy who played Kennedy in Zach Snyder’s movie.” Brett procured praise from Ethel Kennedy herself, when she expressed appreciation for how he portrayed the president. The film “Kill the Dictator” added to his national recognition, but it was with Tom Hank’s “Parkland”, where Brett was able to work alongside Oscar winners Billy Bob Thornton and Marcia Gay Harden, and Oscar nominees Paul Giamatti, Jackie Earle Haley and Jacki Weaver.

The actor wrote, produced and starred in his multiple-award winning production of the film “Ray Bradbury’s Kaleidoscope” (the film that inspired Oscar nominee “Gravity”). He is now in pre-production on his next feature film where he’ll star as “The Champion.”

This year’s NATAS-PSW Emmy Awards will be held Saturday June 20 at the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage .

The recipient of a nomination or an Emmy® Award may refer in advertising and publicity to the fact that they have been honored only for one year after the recognition was bestowed. They may use a replica of the Emmy® statuette in such advertising. Individuals who significantly contributed to the production or craft but were not honored with a statuette cannot specifically advertise they are an Emmy® award recipient. They can only state they worked on the recognized program.

STUDENT PRODUCTIONS:  Students are not considered peer professionals and as such, their regional student productions are not eligible for Emmy® award recognition. Student award recipients from any NATAS Chapters’ high school or college competitions may not use the Emmy® name or replica of the Emmy® figure in any form of commercial advertising or promotion for their recognition.

2015 Board of Governors Election Coming In May

Would you like to help improve NATAS Pacific Southwest?  There is no better way to influence the quality of the membership experience than to join us on the Board of Governors.  The Board of Governors is the parliamentary governing body which oversees the functioning of each of the Chapters that comprise The National Television Academy.  The Governors are entrusted with administering the Chapters and for safeguarding the integrity of the Emmy® brand and the Emmy® Awards process.  Governors are elected by the general membership of each Chapter from its active members. Governors may serve two consecutive two-year terms.
If you’d like to run for the June ’15 – June ’17 term, contact the chapter office at [email protected] to put your name on the ballot.
The duties of a Governor include the following:
•To attend a general meeting each month of the Board of Governors to discuss and vote on matters of importance to the Academy.
•To act as a conduit to and from the television community on matters affecting the Chapter and the community.
•To chair or serve actively on at least one Committee.*
•To participate actively in the production of at least one Chapter program or activity each year and to attend as many Chapter functions as possible.
•To serve as a judge and recruit others to judge the Emmy entries from other Chapters of The National Academy.
•To recruit new members of the Chapter.
•To perform whatever other duties are required to maintain the integrity, well-being, and efficient functioning of the Television Academy Chapter.
* The Standing Committees of the Pacific Southwest Chapter include: Activities, Area Awards, Communications, Internet, Legal, Chapter Stations, Membership and Education/Scholarship. There are also several ad hoc committees including Nominations, Television History and Silver/Gold Circle.
Help us continue over 40 years of excellence by running for the NATAS-PSW Board of Governors!
